Los Gatos Ballet is proud to present a student performance of Peter and the Wolf, choreographed by directors Marcie Ryken and Crystal Petzel. Peter and the Wolf , a musical tale for children composed by Sergi Prokofiev, tells the story of a boy named Peter who ventures into the forest despite his grandfathers warnings about the wolf that lives there. The audience will recognize the characters by the musical instruments that accompany each character. Watch for Peter, represented by the violins, and his friends the duck, the cat and the bird, which will be accompanied by the oboe, clarinet and flute. Peter’s old grandfather appears and is accompanied by a bassoon, the hunters by the timpani and the bass drum, and the sinister wolf by the French horns. As the ballet unfolds, be sure to watch the scenery as it comes alive and follow along as the hunters pursue the wolf. Additionally, Los Gatos Ballet together with San Jose Dance Theatre is pleased to present the Youth Choreography Showcase. In a program developed by Los Gatos Ballet, advanced students have the opportunity to develop and present their own visions of dance. Each student choreographer displays enormous talent and individuality. It is a pleasure to present their original works on stage. Los Gatos Ballet has had the pleasure of working with Teen Dance Company in past performances. Again, this year they will round out our program with tap, jazz and hip-hop numbers. Teen Dance Company will also perform two original student choreography works.
