Born in 1978, Mr Minh started playing the guitar when he was nine years old. Living in Australia since 1991, he learnt the classical guitar for three years before winning a scholarship to the Canberra Conservatory, under the Australia National University, in 1993. Mr Minh said he wanted to perform in Vietnam as a way to tap the homeland for inspiration in his music. He will play solo at the Phu Nhuan Culture House on December 14, before joining the annual guitar festival of the Phu Nhuan Culture House on January 2005. Despite having joined many master classes with world famous musicians such as John Williams from Australia, Carlos Bonell from the UK and David Leisner from the US, he says that Timothy Kain, Professor of the Australia National University had the most influence on him. While young guitarists mainly perform contemporary works, Minh prefers classical pieces. However, he said, he likes all styles of music, playing works by composers from the Renaissance to contemporary music, from Gaspar Sanz to Roland Dyens. He has selected his favourite classical works for the homecoming performance. As a member of quartet Guitar Trek, he gained experience in playing live and according to him, this has helped him a lot in solo performances. Guitar Trek also released several recordings. Minh now plans to release a solo album, which he hopes will be on shelves next year. Most of the pieces he plans to play in Vietnam will be on that recording. Mr Minh won first prize at the Adelaide Spring Guitar Competition in 2001. He earned a Bachelor degree with distinction with a record mark in a solo performance at the Australia National University. He completed his Masters degree this year.
