This was such an awesome show. Too bad it only had the one performance. Singers, musicians, costumes, video ... all of it made for an outstanding, spectacular performance.

We recognize Colonel Matthew Bogdanos as preserving and restoring art and history to humanity. Thence far, no one else was fighting for the sake of humanity to protect Iraq's and human history. This is one heart touching tale. His endeavors add a united sense to the aftermath we will see once Iraqi's and Americans realize we are just... spirits in the human body...people. I would have given this performance a perfect "5" but for the fact Keali'i didn't perform one chant. However, that being said, the evening was wonderful, and well worth the 800 miles round trip I drove to get there. The energy Keali'i brought to the Fox Theatre was electric! He is one performer who sounds just as good, if not better, LIVE than he does on his cd's. Every performer on stage with Keali'i was first rate, and it was apparent how much this group enjoys performing together. My favorite moment was when Keali'i sat on the edge of the stage with just his guitar, singing "Ka Nohona Pili Kai" while his cousin danced alone behind him. It was a tender performance with the two cousins "telling us" about their beloved gramma's house by the sea. Another show highlight was friend and mentor Puakea Nogelmeier dancing to a mele which he himself wrote 20 years ago. Sadly, the show ended too soon, but I left Redwood City with an overflowing spirit of Aloha. Collapse

Although we didn't stay for Dan Hicks (there was an interim act "Mary's Corvette?" that would have been acceptable had she bothered to tune her guitar - it was painful - a pity. Michelle Shocked was extremely entertaining, animated, crazed, self-medicated, funny, irreverent and all-in-all whacky musically tight fine time. The horn player (Chris Armstrong or something like that) was beyond elegant - first time I can recall hearing solo trumpet that was what I'd call "delicate" - great variety, much too short - whole show could have been this most fine group (Michelle on guitar, electric bass, lead electric guitar, drummer, keyboard and trumpet) - 5+ stars on this - can't speak to Dan Hicks as we didn't stay for him - wish that the interim group hadn't happened...
