The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum presents the Mithraic Mysteries, a 35-minute planetarium show. Of the many riddles left to us by antiquity, none is more intriguing than that of the ancient Roman religion known as the Mithraic mysteries. The teachings of this ancient Roman "mystery religion" of Mithraism were guarded with the utmost secrecy, revealed only to select initiates. While the Mithraists never wrote down their secret doctrines, they did leave a key to them in the arcane iconography, which filled the walls of their underground temples. Until now, all attempts to decipher this iconography have proven fruitless. Most experts have been content with a vague hypothesis that these images somehow derived from ancient Iranian religion.

In a groundbreaking work, Dr. David Ulansey has recently offered a radically different theory. He argues that Mithraic iconography was actually an astronomical code, and that the cult began as a religious response to a startling scientific discovery. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum presents his theory of the mysteries concealed in Mithraic temple carvings that could reveal the central secret of the cult: a secret consisting of an ancient vision of the ultimate nature of the universe.

Engineers combine creativity and logic on microchips Whether it’s in a car, cell phone, video game, or thermostat, every microchip has a unique design based on its function. Even a simple task, such as turning on the furnace when the house gets cold, requires complex wiring on the chip. Powerful design software helps engineers innovate new ways to fit more and more tasks on each microchip. See how many features you can combine as you design chips to control toys in the Silicon Workshop.

The Cantor Art Center’s collection of Rodin bronzes is the largest in the world outside Paris, second only to the Musee Rodin. More than fifty works by Rodin are on view inside the Center, mostly cast bronze, but also works in wax, plaster, and terra cotta. Twenty bronzes, including The Gates of Hell, on which Rodin worked for two decades to complete, are outside in the Sculpture Garden. The Burghers of Calais are nearby on campus. The garden is open 24 hours a day, is lit at night for nightime viewings, and is adjacent to the Cantor Arts Center. Free public tours are available on Wednesdays at 2 pm, Saturdays at 11:30 am, and Sundays at 3 pm, rain or shine. Meet in the main lobby.

Join our two intrepid seafarers, the oceanographer and the pirate, as they set sail and discover innovative new ways to explore the mysteries and treasures of the deep. Then, right after the show, be sure to stick around for Shipwrecked!, a hands-on activity where you actually build a structure to help you and your fellow castaways survive on a desert island. Due to the pirate theme in our show, it's rated "Arrrrrr!"...which is pirate speak for "Suitable for all ages!" Yar. Both the film and the activity show daily on The Tech's atrium stage on the museum's lower level.

The world's first virtual-world-to-real-world exhibition gallery! The Tech Virtual Test Zone is a new area in the museum showcasing the world's first hands-on, interactive exhibits conceptualized and developed originally in the virtual world of Second Life®. These new exhibits are the result of The Tech's virtual exhibit design initiative and competition, called The Tech Virtual, which was launched in December 2007 and aims to revolutionize the way new museum exhibitions are developed.

The Tech Virtual Test Zone is a prototype exhibit area that will consistently feature virtual-world-to-real-world exhibits on a specific theme resulting from The Tech Virtual program. The first theme featured in the Test Zone is "Art, Film & Music", which is also the theme of a new permanent gallery that The Tech plans to launch by 2010, featuring some of the people and innovations from Silicon Valley that have contributed significantly to this field. Come to The Tech to see and experience these unique exhibits for yourself! Or visit The Tech Virtual in Second Life, and participate in our ongoing exhibit design challenges.

The Museum of American Heritage (MOAH), The Bay Area LEGO® User Group (BayLUG) and Bay Area LEGO Train Club (BayLTC) are again combining forces this winter to repeat last year's spectacular Holiday season display at MOAH. MOAH visitors can explore a variety of LEGO creations and an operating LEGO train layout featuring a wide variety of creations by club members. Highlighting it all is Holidays in the Bay Area, a 12 by 25 foot train layout incorporating multiple trains running through city, farm, and suburban scenes. How many Bay Area locales and structures will you be able to indentify? Come and find out just how many clever ways LEGO can be used. Club members will be present during weekend hours to answer questions and support the displays.
