The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition was established in 1986 to provide a Bay Area-based showcase for Black comedians and comedians of color from all over the United States and across the world. For over two decades, the Competition has been at the vanguard of the Black/urban comedy movement, greatly contributing to the career development of many of its stars. Bobby Collins is a storyteller. His heartfelt humor engages audiences with a hilarious blend of characterizations and spot-on observations to which everyone can relate. Unlike many comedians, who rely solely upon the clever use of words and ideas to engage an audience, from the moment Bobby hits the stage, he lassoes the crowd and pulls them ever closer to him while they cry from laughter. Even the hardcore “I usually don’t laugh at comedian” types, cannot help but surrender to his energy and visual antics targeted directly at tickling their funny bones. This year's Chickens’ Ball presents One World as its 70th Anniversary Production in the spirit of the 1915 World's Faire and in celebration of the cultural diversity of the City of San Carlos' community. In 1939, Howard Demeke (a San Carlos teacher) had an idea... to bring members of the community together and to raise a little "milk money" for children at the school. Christopher Titus jokes about things most comics would find impossible to make funny. Custody battles, insanity, family suicides, heart attacks, and fist fighting his father are all topics to be confronted, not hidden from. “I think our collective psychosis is hilarious. With the world moving as fast as it is, if we weren’t dysfunctional, we couldn’t function,” says Titus. Christopher is that most rare of comics in that his material is edgy and pushes the envelope, but still accessible and meaningful to the common audience.

After years of experimentation with dark and personal storytelling, he debuted his one-man show, Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding at The Hudson Theater in Los Angeles. The packed house gave him a standing ovation. Already a standout at the 1996, 1997 and 1999 Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, in 2000 Christopher brought Norman Rockwell to the Festival for a sold-out run at the prestigious Centaur Theatre.

After graduating from the University of South Florida with a chemical engineering degree in 1969, Gallagher began working as comic/musician Jim Stafford’s road manager. Stafford and Gallagher went out to California in 1979 and Gallagher decided to take the stage himself. He began honing his own comedy act while hanging out at both The Comedy Store and the Ice House.

Lynn Ruth Miller started doing comedy on stage when she was 71 years old and has launched a new career coupling stand up comedy with cabaret singing and storytelling. Miller hit the headlines in Edinburgh at the 2005 International Fringe Festival for jumping out of a cake (almost) and removing her clothes (not quite). She left them laughing when she sat on their laps in 2006 and in 2007, she was dubbed the new Joan Rivers of Fringe Comedy. Now she is 74 and she swears she hasn’t gotten the last laugh yet. Michael McDonald was born and raised in Fullerton, Orange County, California. He graduated from USC with a degree in Business and became a loan officer at a bank in Los Angeles. A friend took him to see a sketch comedy/improv show at L.A.'s famous Groundling Theater, and everything changed for him. McDonald quit his job as a banker, enrolled in the Groundling's Improv Program, and became a member of the troupe from 1992 to 1997. His first professional writing and acting jobs came from Concorde Pictures, Roger Corman's infamous low-budget movie studio. Starting as an extra, McDonald landed small roles in many B-movies of the early 1990s, and he gradually earned bigger roles as well as eventually writing and directing some films. He has had a cameo in every Austin Powers movie. After numerous small roles in various television sitcoms in the mid-1990s, McDonald obtained a starring role on Mad TV (1995), and is now the longest-running cast member on the show.

Sommore has appeared on various shows including Def Comedy Jam, Showtime at the Apollo, Comicview, and BET's Live from L.A. She has also had guest appearances on television sitcoms The Hughleys and The Parkers, and she has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. She also roasted Flavor Flav on Comedy Central's Roast of Flavor Flav. Her film appearances include 2004's Soul Plane, A Miami Tail, Friday After Next, and Something New. Sommore and fellow African American female comedians Mo'Nique, Laura Hayes, and Adele Givens were the stars on the Queens of Comedy tour, which was filmed and subsequently shown on Showtime and released on DVD. Parker joined the cast of MADtv in 2003 as a featured performer for the ninth season. She was promoted to cast member status the following season. Parker's most noteworthy characters include Inside Looking Out host Pat-Beth LaMontrose and the carefree yet naive Disney Girl. In 2004 Parker was Nominated for the Jeff Award nomination for Best Actress in a Principal Role: Musical, for her performance in The People vs. Friar Laurence, The Man Who Killed Romeo and Juliet. From July 2006 to January 2007, Parker performed in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me comedy musical. In 2009 Parker played the role of Elphaba in the Broadway production of the musical Wicked, for a six month run.

Peele joined the cast of MADtv in 2003 as a featured performer, for the ninth season. Around the time Keegan-Michael Key joined the cast as a featured performer, it was assumed that Key would be chosen over Peele. However, Peele created enough memorable characters—including Funkenstein and Superstitious Knight Ty Gray—and would be carried over to the next season. Peele also impressed with his various celebrity impersonations, which included favorites Caroll Spinney (as the voice of Big Bird), Ja Rule, James Brown, Flavor Flav, Justin Guarini, Montel Williams, Morgan Freeman, and Forest Whitaker. After five seasons on MADtv, Jordan decided to leave the cast during the show's 13th season.

Ranked by Comedy Central as one of the top 100 standup comedians of all time, Sinbad has built a loyal following by taking audiences' painful trials or embarassing tribulations of day-by-day life, throwing them back in their faces, and causing an uproar of comedic hysteria. He can also make it sound profound without being profane. Not that he's any kind of choirboy, but by being the son of a preacher man he decided to keep his comedy clean after his father attended one of his early performances.
