OVO is a headlong rush into a colourful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects' home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion. When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives.

It’s love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual.

OVO is overflowing with contrasts. The hidden, secret world at our feet is revealed as tender and torrid, noisy and quiet, peaceful and chaotic. And as the sun rises on a bright new day the vibrant cycle of insect life begins anew.

John Hoogasian is the best-kept comedy secret weapon. A wit honed to a razor's edge through years of sacrifice propels Johnnie's creative flow. Immediately accessible and fresh, Hoogie's style is both pioneering and classic. He tailors his sets to the harmonics of his audience. His fearless on-stage adventures challenge the audience to be with him in the moments. He will engage anyone, anywhere with his own unique hand-to-hand banter. In a world fraught with real and imagined danger, he creates an escape route that invites kindred spirits along, and his pathos has resonance across all of humanity.

Sam Bam has been a comedian for as long as he could remember. Hailing from Stockton, California, Sam had experienced the usual ups and downs as a teenager trying to make it out of the hood. "I was always a good story teller, one day I just decided to give it a shot and tried stand up." His decision to take on comedy was the right one. Starting off in a little room in San Francisco to being seen nationally on television on BET's Comic View, Sam has made strides in the right direction and continues to never lose sight of the reason why he does comedy.

The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition was established in 1986 to provide a Bay Area-based showcase for Black comedians and comedians of color from all over the United States and across the world. For over two decades, the Competition has been at the vanguard of the Black/urban comedy movement, greatly contributing to the career development of many of its stars. According to event founder and executive Producer Tony Spires, the Competition was born out of a need for "Comedic Affirmative Action." Through the years, the BABCCF has emerged from its grassroots-based genesis to become the largest and longest-running live, urban comedy showcase in the country.

Phil Palisoul is probably the funniest guy you haven't heard of... yet. In spite of having over two dozen television appearances, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, A&E's Caroline's Comedy Hour and NBC's Last Comic Standing, as well as appearances on sitcoms and even a music video, somehow Phil manages to stay just under the comedy radar. But, for those who have been lucky enough to catch Phil's act, their sides may still be hurting from the laughter.

Everyone is sure to enjoy William Shakespeare's light-hearted comedy of fairies, lovers, and even a donkey! San Jose Youth Shakespeare is a theater company for young people in the Bay Area who are interested in performing in full-length productions of Shakespeare’s plays. These performances run approximately two hours and thirty minutes, but we encourage families with children to attend.

Bobby Collins is a storyteller. His heartfelt humor engages audiences with a hilarious blend of characterizations and spot-on observations to which everyone can relate. Unlike many comedians, who rely solely upon the clever use of words and ideas to engage an audience, from the moment Bobby hits the stage, he lassoes the crowd and pulls them ever closer to him while they cry from laughter. Even the hardcore “I usually don’t laugh at comedian” types, cannot help but surrender to his energy and visual antics targeted directly at tickling their funny bones. It also doesn’t hurt that Bobby is more eye candy than Quasimoto.

Bobby is a force of nature. Funny is funny and Bobby is funny. Bobby shows people themselves. He holds up a mirror to each of us and helps us not to take ourselves so seriously.

This year's Chickens’ Ball presents One World as its 70th Anniversary Production in the spirit of the 1915 World's Faire and in celebration of the cultural diversity of the City of San Carlos' community. In 1939, Howard Demeke (a San Carlos teacher) had an idea... to bring members of the community together and to raise a little "milk money" for children at the school. So he rallied the community and put together a friendly "skit" competition. 70 years later, The Chicken' Ball is the oldest PTA fundraiser in the country and one of the longest continuously running shows of all time!

In April of 2010, the City of San Carlos will celebrate its 36th biennial production by presenting One World. Once again pulling out all the stops to transform the Central School Theatre into a world of wonder, excitement and delight. So dust off your boas and top hats and join us at the Ball. The Chickens’ Ball Steering Committee is presenting a Gala evening on April 24th to commemorate the 70th year of the San Carlos Chickens’ Ball. Dinner/drinks and the show for only $70! Please visit the official website for more information.

Christopher Titus jokes about things most comics would find impossible to make funny. Custody battles, insanity, family suicides, heart attacks, and fist fighting his father are all topics to be confronted, not hidden from. “I think our collective psychosis is hilarious. With the world moving as fast as it is, if we weren’t dysfunctional, we couldn’t function,” says Titus. Christopher is that most rare of comics in that his material is edgy and pushes the envelope, but still accessible and meaningful to the common audience.

After years of experimentation with dark and personal storytelling, he debuted his one-man show, Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding at The Hudson Theater in Los Angeles. The packed house gave him a standing ovation. Already a standout at the 1996, 1997 and 1999 Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, in 2000 Christopher brought Norman Rockwell to the Festival for a sold-out run at the prestigious Centaur Theatre.

Christopher’s television stand-up includes two cable specials, Norman Rockwell is Bleeding for Showtime (2004) and The 5th Annual End of the World Tour for Comedy Central (2007) as well as regular appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

After graduating from the University of South Florida with a chemical engineering degree in 1969, Gallagher began working as comic/musician Jim Stafford’s road manager. Stafford and Gallagher went out to California in 1979 and Gallagher decided to take the stage himself. He began honing his own comedy act while hanging out at both The Comedy Store and the Ice House.

Gallagher was one of the most popular and recognizable American comedians during the early 1980's. He produced at least one special a year from 1981 to 1987, all of which were carried by Showtime and then re-broadcast numerous times throughout the year. To date, he has done sixteen specials.

It's become a must have DVD in anyone's comedy collection. He currently travels all over North America touring cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Houston, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Hawaii doing his one-man show.

Lynn Ruth Miller started doing comedy on stage when she was 71 years old and has launched a new career coupling stand up comedy with cabaret singing and storytelling. Miller hit the headlines in Edinburgh at the 2005 International Fringe Festival for jumping out of a cake (almost) and removing her clothes (not quite). She left them laughing when she sat on their laps in 2006 and in 2007, she was dubbed the new Joan Rivers of Fringe Comedy. Now she is 74 and she swears she hasn’t gotten the last laugh yet. She has certainly taken the Bay Area by surprise if not by storm and has become the symbol of achievement to all who know her. "If I can make MY dreams come true, anyone can," says Lynn Ruth Miller.

Perhaps best known as the comedian who puts the cerebral in Cerebral Palsy, Josh Blue exploded onto the national comedy scene by capturing the attention and endearment of the country as the winner of NBC's Last Comic Standing. Having already established himself as one of the most sought after comedians on the college circuit, his weekly appearances on Last Comic in the summer of 2006 expanded his fan base exponentially. Possessed with an undeniable likeability and comedic timing that belies his youthfulness, Josh continues to break down stereotypes of people with disabilities one laugh at a time. His stand-up routine is in a constant state of evolution and his off-the-cuff improvisational skills guarantee that no two shows are exactly alike. Josh has also become a hit on the internet with his top two YouTube videos receiving well over 1 million plays.

For the past four seasons, Bill has brought his humor and comedic expertise to his role as host of the hit TV One network series, Bill Bellamy's Who's Got Jokes?, which premiered its new season from the Las Vegas Strip last October. Also serving as executive producer, Bellamy and team search the nation for the hottest rising comics who will compete to be crowned "Jokes" champion.

Andy Andrist draws his remarkable comedic courage from the same place he extracts his unique world view: straight out of another bottle of domestic light beer. During Andrist’s two seasons on the writing staff of Comedy Central’s The Man Show, he kept the censors so busy red-lining his outrageous sketch ideas that carpal tunnel syndrome became more rampant than the common cold. That experience, in addition to his many years as a top protégé of comedy’s neutron bomb, Doug Stanhope, has Andrist primed to break loose as a headliner in his own right. His special brand of enlightenment will make you see your world – and yourself – differently.

Michael McDonald was born and raised in Fullerton, Orange County, California. He graduated from USC with a degree in Business and became a loan officer at a bank in Los Angeles. A friend took him to see a sketch comedy/improv show at L.A.'s famous Groundling Theater, and everything changed for him. McDonald quit his job as a banker, enrolled in the Groundling's Improv Program, and became a member of the troupe from 1992 to 1997. His first professional writing and acting jobs came from Concorde Pictures, Roger Corman's infamous low-budget movie studio. Starting as an extra, McDonald landed small roles in many B-movies of the early 1990s, and he gradually earned bigger roles as well as eventually writing and directing some films. He has had a cameo in every Austin Powers movie. After numerous small roles in various television sitcoms in the mid-1990s, McDonald obtained a starring role on Mad TV (1995), and is now the longest-running cast member on the show.

Acclaimed by the New York Times blog as the best filmmakers on the internet, the "Tolstoy of the Zulus" Gunnar Fritz Stansson and L.W. Hodge are most widely known for their series of YouTube comedy sketches entitled Unforgivable, which have garnered over 50,000,000 views on YouTube. Having produced art and filmed comedy from an early age, Stansson and Hodge have an eccentric, self-taught style that is truly original. In their new live show debut, they employ another young writer and actor Chase Hildreth, who plays a major role in their new series Fruitheads. The show will feature all new material and promises to be a very unconventional night of comedy.

Peele also impressed with his various celebrity impersonations, which included favorites Caroll Spinney (as the voice of Big Bird), Ja Rule, James Brown, Flavor Flav, Justin Guarini, Montel Williams, Morgan Freeman, and Forest Whitaker.

Ranked by Comedy Central as one of the top 100 standup comedians of all time, Sinbad has built a loyal following by taking audiences' painful trials or embarassing tribulations of day-by-day life, throwing them back in their faces, and causing an uproar of comedic hysteria. He can also make it sound profound without being profane. Not that he's any kind of choirboy, but by being the son of a preacher man he decided to keep his comedy clean after his father attended one of his early performances. Up to that time he had been what he describes himself as "semi-dirty". Sinbad says that he learned that night that "funny is funny", and that masters of dirty comedy such as Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce could all work clean without losing a step.

Actor/comedian Darrell Hammond fondly recalls his first taste of show business at age five practicing the impressions of his family members on the porch of their home in Melbourne, Florida. It wasn't many years later when Darrell realized he wanted to submerse himself in the pursuit of bringing his comedy and impressions to a much bigger stage. For seven years now, Hammond has brought to life a cavalcade of politicians, media figures, celebrities and news makers on television as a Saturday Night Live cast member. Darrell is known for being one of the most prolific comedians of his time.

Steve Byrne's high energy, physical style of comedy make him one of the hottest young comedians touring the country today. He was born to a Korean mother and an Irish father, which provides him with a wealth of material. His new hour special, Steve Byrne's Happy Hour, premiered on Comedy Central earlier this year to rave reviews. He has been on the big screen in the Jeremy Piven vehicle The Goods: The Don Ready Story as well as with Vince Vaughn and Reece Witherspoon in Four Christmases. He was a series regular on NBC's The Real Wedding Crashers and he appeared in a promo for last year's Superbowl halftime show with Prince. His standup has been featured on NBC's The Tonight Show, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, CBS's The Late Late Show and BET's Comic View. He has featured for Colin Quinn on a USO tour in Iraq as well as for Drew Carrey in Afghanistan. Steve's lack of ego and outstanding work ethic make him one of the most sought after comedians in clubs and colleges across the country.
