Organization
Pacifica Spindrift Players
Pacifica Spindrift Players was founded by a group of 10 people eager to assemble a community theatre in Pacifica They began through the local Parks and Recreation program, and in 1958 the "Pacifica Players" opened their first show, The Tender Trap at the Linda Mar school. Years later, with a following of devoted theatre enthusiasts behind them, the group acquired the old Baptist church at 1050 Crespi Drive, where volunteers shared their carpentry, lighting, and other skills to convert the building into a working theatre. The group soon merged with the local "Spindrift Players" to become "Pacifica Spindrift Players" (PSP). Since then, PSP has been providing volunteer opportunities for people interested in bringing theatre arts to the community of Pacifica and beyond.
Today, PSP is a non-profit organization that continues to attract the most dedicated and exceptional volunteers. The Board of Directors consists of over 20 elected volunteer positions, many of which have been filled by long time members of the theatre (20+ years!). PSP also boasts over 1200 members from all over the Bay Area who receive bi-monthly mailings announcing volunteer opportunities for various aspects of theatre productions, including directing, auditioning, and behind the scenes work for shows. In addition, PSP members receive discounted show tickets, may attend monthly Board meetings, and even run for elected positions.
Another benefit of PSP membership is giving back to the community. PSP's various outreach contributions have included marching and entertaining in the annual Fog Fest Parade, donating or loaning theatre equipment and properties to local school drama departments and other community theatres, offering free senior center shows and local talent show-cases, awarding the Tom Stack Educational Scholarship for the Arts award each year, and donating the proceeds of special benefit performances to deserving causes such as the Little Brown Church preservation effort, and the American Red Cross fund for victims of the September 11th tragedy in 2001.
In addition, PSP houses and supports the Spindrift School of Performing Arts (SSPA). Classes for all ages are taught by local performers and musicians, many of whom are involved with PSP. (There is also a popular summer camp for kids.) SSPA and the PSP family work together to provide the skills and experience that prepare future thespians for a life rich in the performing arts!-

SO glad Brendan Nolan did such a great interpretaton of George Bailey. He was first class. Mary, Clarence and Mr. Potter were standouts. Joan Pugh Newman as Ma Bailey was very skillful and compassionate and the the comic relief of Mr. and Mrs. Martini was scrumptions. Loved the carollers at the preshow and the antics of Bert and Ernie. The supporting townspeople were always focused and energic which really made us feel like we were stepping right into Bedford Falls. Great show! Collapse

My husband & I have for years held the tradition to view our VHS of It's a Wonderful Life every Xmas season. It was so much fun to view a live performance of this great story. This is our first time at a PSP Production. It will definitely not be our last. The actors were great and looked like they were having fun. I especially liked the performances of the actors who played Mr. Potter and Mary Bailey. Good job by all. I also enjoyed the coziness of the small house. I felt closer to the actors and it added to my enjoyment of the show. Collapse

I have known Lou or Todd or whatever you call him for some time and am amazed at the talent. Tonight will be my 3rd visit to Asylum and I can hardly wait. These guys are sooo good and on top of it. Last time I did fall on the floor with laughter. This time I will put something in my back pocket for protection. The quality of the humor from Pacifica no less is something to be proud of. They put the X in extemporaneous they put the hummm in humor and provide all forms of skits from ho to hum. I highly reccomend this troupe as they rarely perform tripe. (pun intended) With that, I exit stage left. Collapse

I went for the first time to this theater as an obligation to see two friends who were in the production of Camelot. Thank goodness I have the duty to support my friends because I was treated to an outstanding production in all aspects. The acting, singing, staging, costuming (A++),props, set decor, musicians, lighting and sound were all superb.I assume this had to a lot to do with cast and crew dedication and excellent direction. I was not familiar with the book, movie or stage play but now know why this story has been so popular and lasted so long. I was thoroughly entertained. The theater itself is a little gem, the acoustics are marvelous and every seat is great. All the people involved were charming from the ticket seller to the ushers. Oh, and, of course, my friends were marvelous!!! Collapse

These people are dangerously funny. Why the person next to me almost laughed his ass off. I would have also except I was rolling in the aisle. Come prepared to laugh and have a good time.
