LOVED Foothill's addition of a chorus to the show - it really added a lot! Principals were all a blast to watch, great show, altogether.

This Spelling Bee musical is an extremely enjoyable show. I wasn't sure what to expect, but what I got was about 2 hours of off the wall characters and musical numbers. The cast of characters is diverse and dynamic. Each character is enjoyable and has an interesting story to tell. It may be set in a spelling bee, but that doesn't limit the action. There is a lot going on in this show. It is hard not to get sucked into the reality of the spelling bee as the actors do a great job of portraying each unique participant in the spelling bee. From magical feet to a conversation with Jesus, it's definitely an interesting ride. I would recommend this show to anyone who wants to see something funny, creative, and well acted. The theatre is also very intimate and makes the experience all that much more enjoyable. Collapse

I had the privilege of being an audience speller, so I got to experience firsthand how adorably in-character these actors are all the time on stage. The small cast are fabulously talented, the show's quirk is embraced by every cast member and it was an experience that left me laughing until the end of the show. I highly recommend this show to anyone who enjoys fun and remembers what it was like to be in elementary school. Collapse

Now I must see the movie, to see if it can match the quality of this stage show. The cast bubbles with dance and singing talent. Each production number is delivered with zip and punch, with every ensemble member giving a top notch performance. There is no let up as the singing, dances, sight gags, and Mel Brooks humor keep coming at you with outstanding costumes on imaginative sets. Gary de Mattei as Max Bialystock, Tim Reynolds as Leo Bloom, and Brittany Ogle as the beautiful Ulla give outstanding performances in these lead roles. Supporting roles are delivered with the same pizzazz. Ray Joseph as Roger DeBris, "the world's worst director," and Sean Patrick Murtagh as his gay assistant Carmen Ghia are a perfect pair. Murtagh brings roars of laughter with his gestures and slinky body movements, and more laughter when he speaks. Joseph's Roger DeBris builds on the gay theme and brings the house down when he "fills in" as the singing-dancing star of Springtime for Hitler. Don’t miss it. Collapse
