My family and I went to go see this show and we were all very entertained. My husband and I were so happy that there was a show that we could bring our children to where they could have fun and we could be entertained. It was particularly fun for me because I remember a lot of the songs. The actors were very good and had a lot of energy. The singing and dancing made this cast of young adults look like true professionals. If you have older parents or younger children this is the perfect show to go see. It will entertain all ages. This is a really great show with a lot of very talented actors, singers and dancers. It was a solid cast who kept me fixated on their performances the whole show and I say "GO See Smokey Joes Cafe!" Courtney Iventosch's "Falling" is sweetly sung and moving, Victoria Morgan's "Don Juan" is sassy and shows that she's a power house blowing you away, Cassie Blake's "Hound Dog" is fun and engaging, Erin Sjostrom's "Pearls a singer"is perfect for her look and rockin' voice, David Martin serenade's us with "Spanish Harlem", Gary Stanford, Jr. is a riot during Little Egypt (one of my favorite songs of the night) Justin Torres blows the audience away with his rock'n'roll voice in "Jailhouse Rock", Kevin Stanford brings the audience to tears with his comedic "Treat Me Nice" and the band was great. Overall, I was, again so impressed the first time I saw it, that I had to go see the show again. I recommend that if you love Great theatre,...GO SEE THIS SHOW! Trust me, you wont be disappointed. I went to see this performance last Saturday nite and was I ever surprised at the quality of the performers! Excellent vocals and the choeographed numbers were so entertaining. Footwork was fast and exceptional. I'm hard to please but this show did it! The singing is great and the comedy is funny. Several "OUTSTANDING" performers. Go see it for yourself! LOVED IT! Collapse

Hillbarn's The Music Man is one of those shows that really is just perfect for a family outing. It has a lot of splash and pizazz, humor, and a bunch of charming little kids in it to boot. The show isn\'t perfect, of course. It is too bad that pre-recorded music is used for the whole production because some of the flashy dance numbers could use an added boost of live music booming from instruments as opposed to speakers. Still, it\'s one of the better productions of The Music Man that I\'ve seen thus far. Highlights of the play include Mindy Lym\'s Marian and her stunning voice, choreography by the always-impressive Joe Duffy, and the enthusiastic ensemble for bringing life to their small Iowa town on stage. *disclaimer: as a Bay Area performer and director, I know some of the people involved in the cast and crew of this production. Michael Sally's protrayal of The Foreigner really impressed me. He is the kind a character actor that takes you on a hilarious ride. Patrick Scott as Ellard Simms is a fresh young funny face. The two of these guys do a great bit of physical comedy in the second act and really get the pace going. By using a pun on preaching and sci-fi fiction, Larry Shue's play does a excellent job of using humor to address the social issue of hatred. I left the theater thinking about it unexpectedly. The Hillbarn theatre is a comfortable venue and has a reputation for execellent set design. This production follows that precedence. However, I have to take a star off in this case because the set is almost too good to convey a rundown fishing lodge. It could use a little tarnish on the brass or a door that gets stuck so that those of us who have lived through home improvement could relate. I would recommend seeing this production. Collapse

Nobody ever does this show, but I know a few people in it and I snuck in to the dress rehearsals to take a peek. It is really well done. 80's to the max. The scenery and costumes are so much fun to look at, very colorful and hi-tech feeling comes out. The cast is excellent, especially the 10 or more kids in the show who are dancing really really well and are so energetic. It sounds really digital with synthesized keyboard sounds and reminds me of a rock or an MTV kind of feel. I am not sure how different it is from the Tom Hanks movie, but what a great show and cast for this time of year. It is colorful, fun and uplifting. The dancing is really wonderful and the music is cool. I am surprised that many other companies have not done this show. FUN! Collapse

John Kirman's direction, Joe Duffy's choreography and Greg "Suds" Sudmeier's musical direction made this one of the best ensemble shows I have ever seen-there or anywhere. How they got 30+ people on that gorgeous intimate stage to tell a very complex story was sheer genius. I haven't been that entertained in years!! This is community theater at its very best. I am signing up for a season subscription because I can't wait to see what else they will delight me with!! Collapse

I've seen a couple hundred local shows over the past fifteen years, and I consider it a nice night if one or two people really stand out and the rest just hold their own. Every lead in GRAND HOTEL-- top to bottom-- nailed it, and the ensemble was terrific too. You don't have much time to catch this production, so get your butt up there! You won't regret it. Collapse
