Japanese American Museum San Jose (JAMsj)

JAMsj preserves and disseminates the culture and history of Japanese American, with a special focus on the Santa Clara Valley.

It was established 1987 and grew out of a research project on Japanese American farmers which collected family histories, photographs and private memoirs. This project grew into a curriculum used by the San Jose Unified School District. JAMsj continuing work led to the award-wining book, Japanese Legacy: Farming and Community Life in California's Santa Clara Valley in 1985.

    Growing up I learned of camp because as my dad says "I asked too many questions" It was something that was pretty much a dark secret growing up. Seeing a life altering event that happened in my grandparents life displayed in a museum is in a way heartwarming to me. I am very proud of my grandparents and the honerable, respected people they became regardless of this tragic event that they had to live through. I am so proud of my Grandmother, Elsie Mayeda-Honda, words cannot explain! My Grandpa would have been so proud to see her tell her story! She and the others in the exhibit are able to educate so many on the dark secret many Japanese-Americans have kept for so long! Collapse
