"Very Enjoyable"

This is the best show I've seen by Woodside so far. The entire cast was strong, especially the leads, the singing was great, and the set was wonderful to look at. I highly recommend it.

Right up front, I must say that the sets and lighting were maybe the best I've ever seen in a local production. Anatevka really looked like an actual village, not a cheap facade and the staging of The Dream was simply astounding. Of course, Fiddler will live and die on its Tevye and Daniel Matis delivers a towering performance, effectively balancing the bluster and tenderness. Claudia McCarley is more than his match as Golde. The daughters sing beautifully in a showstopping Matchmaker, Matchmaker. Darlene Batchelder steals every scene as Yente. The orchestra is lush and the chorus sounds gorgeous. Only the clunky dancing prevents it from being a perfect evening out. Collapse

It's worth a trip to Woodside to see the beautiful new theater. How lucky this community is to have such a nice venue. MUSIC MAN is the prime example of American Musical Theater. It usually always works in any situation. However, I have seen two productions of this show in the past two months and I now I am beginning to question that. Some beautiful performances from Kerie Geni Darner and Damian Marhefka still can't carry a show. It needs energy from every single person who is on that stage. Some of the ensemble and lesser roles have a tendency to doze during the book scenes. The audience can see that. Some nice costumes from the AMT production several years back give a nice period flavor to the show as well as the wonderful drops. Orchestra was fine and for the most part the quartet sang on key which is always a challenge in a regional theater production. Lots of people involved in the total presentation which shows that theater is alive and well in Woodside. Collapse

This production was splendid and all-around solid. Damian Marhefka seems born to play Harold Hill--I could almost hear the "pling" as the light glinted off his ingratiating smile. Keri Geni Darner as Marian impressed me with her lovely true soprano voice and excellent acting. The two leads had a superb supporting cast of dozens, including a delightful group of children of varying ages. The featured children were captivating and talented. The single fault I noticed was a tendency for the ensemble to rush, but that's the nitpicking musician in me. Others of note were Darrell Batchelder and Joseph Bresett. These are the kind of actors who shine even when the spotlight isn't on them--Batchelder's facial expressions kept me smiling and Bresett's cozy bass was a wonderful foundation for the fantastic Quartet. The production quality was top-notch, with professional-looking costumes and beautifully painted backdrops. And this was the best pit I've heard from a community theatre EVER. Bravo! Collapse

The Cole Porter and P.G. Wodehouse collaboration is of its period with the humor being about class. You go in knowing most of the songs and could probably sing along. There are a few gems you don't hear often like Blow, Gabriel,Blow. The show is fun and the singing is good. Hope (Kerie Geni) is a scene stealer in a few acts. She really puts feeling into the songs and makes them come to life. All the singers are strong and the dance numbers are fun, frothy and perfect for the time period. This show is not done often and it is great to see live. Get your tickets so you don't miss your chance. Collapse

A Must See Performance of the Wonderful and Beautiful Singing Star, Sharon Maxwell-Yamamoto! Sharon brings back great singing to the Broadway Stage. She really sings the role of "Reno" the way Cole Porter wanted it, a non belting, lost vocal sound of the 30's & 40's stars of stage and screen divas of the past! The other leading actors are wonderful and well cast in their roles. Go See this show! You'll get a Big Kick Out of Sharon "RENO" and the rest of the wonderful cast on the "Anything Goes Ship!
