Stanford Theatre

The Stanford Theatre, a beautiful 1175-seat Greek/Assyrian style movie palace, first opened in 1925. It served for decades as Palo Alto's premier movie house.

In 1987, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation bought the theatre and restored it to its original splendor. It is now owned by the nonprofit Stanford Theatre Foundation, which was established for the purpose of operating the theatre and promoting the preservation and public appreciation of classic films. Today, the theater's programming consists entirely of classic films, primarily from the years 1920 through 1965.
