San Mateo County History Museum
In 1935, Roscoe Wyatt, manager of the San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce, helped establish the San Mateo County Historical Association (SMCHA) as a nonprofit corporation dedicated to the collection and preservation of historical data, artifacts and information about San Mateo County. In the beginning, the SMCHA concentrated on taking pictures of the county and interviewing long-time residents.
In 1914, Dr. Frank M. Stranger, the Association president at the time, established the San Mateo County History Museum, which he located on the campus of the College of San Mateo, with the SMCHA's archived and library. In February 1999, the History Museum moved to the old San Mateo County Courthouse in Redwood City. The new site quintupled the museum's exhibit space.
Dr. Stranger also created the Association's first publication, La Peninsula to be published twice a year as a journal. In addition to La Peninsula, the SMCNA prints a monthly newsletter. It also has published many books written about the history of San Mateo County.
Along with the Museum, SMCHA also operates the Woodside Store in Woodside, and the Sanchez Adobe in Pacifica. The San Mateo County Historical Association is accredited by the American Association of Museums.

Have done this for 10 years and its a wonderful afternoon spent. The area is enclosed and safe for toddlers, and GREAT for school age kids. There are several adults in costume to help guide kids through the many Rancho activites and Crafts, most who have been doing this for years. The spirit and fun is great at this precious little jewel of a site, both historically and geographically. A great afternoon 12-4! Collapse
