de Saisset Museum, Santa Clara University
The de Saisset Museum, located on the campus of Santa Clara University, is a museum of art and history. This 17,000 square foot Museum, adjacent to the Mission Santa Clara de Asis, was founded in 1955. The museum serves as a repository of Ernest de Saisset's paintings, as well as his family's jewelry, silver, furniture and decorative arts. Since its founding, the collections have grown to include nearly 4,000 prints and photographs with particular strength in 20th century holdings. In addition, the Museum presents temporary exhibitions of art, as well as lectures, concerts, and film series, for the educational and cultural benefit of the University community, the local community and visitors.
The de Saisset Museum's collection of 9,500 objects includes fine art (7,000 works); decorative art (700 pieces); and historic, anthropological, archeological artifacts (1,800 objects).
The de Saisset Museum is also the caretaker of the University's California History Collection. The collection includes ethnographic artifacts from the pre-European contact period and historical objects that document the shifting characteristics of the Santa Clara Valley from the founding of the Mission through the Gold Rush and early years of the College.

The scope, diversity, talent and subject of this exhibit is really complex. I enjoyed the different types of photography as well as the feeling of travelling as the photos are from all over the world.... Expand
The scope, diversity, talent and subject of this exhibit is really complex. I enjoyed the different types of photography as well as the feeling of travelling as the photos are from all over the world. The pieces certainly inspire dialouge and I encourage you to go with a friend or two. Great little museum, and really a great exhibit! Collapse

This moving exhibit of black and white portraits is really wonderful. I've never been to this museum before and it was such a treat. The exhibits are creatively and tastefully installed and the variety and scope of the work was really enjoyable. You can take 20 minutes or an hour and 20 minutes, from just a glimpse and scan of the images to a more detailed observation with the literature about the photos and the experiences of the photographers.
