de Saisset Museum, Santa Clara University
The de Saisset Museum, founded in 1955, is a free museum of art and history operated by Santa Clara University. It is one of only three museums in the South Bay accredited by the American Association of Museums. An active program of free docent tours covers the Mission and the California History collection. Every year, thousands of children are introduced to their region’s history through this program.
The Museum's permanent collection includes Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, and 19th century prints by artists such as Albrecht Durer, William Hogarth and Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Modernist prints include works by Chagall, Matisse and Picasso. It also has a strong photography collection featuring Ansel Adams, Ruth Bernhard, Edward Curtis, Imogen Cunningham and Judy Dater. It also houses the University’s California History Collection, which includes Native American artifacts from the pre-European contact period and Spanish Colonial works.

The scope, diversity, talent and subject of this exhibit is really complex. I enjoyed the different types of photography as well as the feeling of travelling as the photos are from all over the world. The pieces certainly inspire dialouge and I encourage you to go with a friend or two. Great little museum, and really a great exhibit! Collapse

This moving exhibit of black and white portraits is really wonderful. I've never been to this museum before and it was such a treat. The exhibits are creatively and tastefully installed and the variety and scope of the work was really enjoyable. You can take 20 minutes or an hour and 20 minutes, from just a glimpse and scan of the images to a more detailed observation with the literature about the photos and the experiences of the photographers. Really a nice display! Collapse
