Seeing this made me want to go read Sandra Cisneros' book. A wonderful portrayal of a world contained by one street, with colorful characters and memorable moments, both sweet and bittersweet. You will laugh out loud and you might even shed a few tears. Some of the scenes were near poetic in their execution. I strongly recommend seeing this. Collapse

We had the opportunity to see this show on one of its preview nights. A tiny cast in a cozy theater pulled off one big hit! The staging was creative, the acting sincere and the translation natural. Be sure you wear your reading glasses if you are not a Spanish speaker, though, as the subtitles can be a bit tricky at times. Collapse

Do youself a favor and go see this great theatre experience. As a avid theatregoer but not a spanish speaker I was a bit nervous about how much I would get out of this show, but I was delighted! Some of the best acting I have seen in the last year graced the MHP stage in a super story. Under 2 hours, this production is poetry and passion! The supertitles in English certainly help, but you will find you are mezmerized by the action, the acting, and the SOUND of the play. Fascinating to be in a multilingual audience sharing universal reactions. This is really a great evening. Collapse

The synopsis listed the play as being bilingual however this was misleading. The Spanish dialogue was approx. 99.9%. It would have been more enjoyable if subtitle of dialogue was presented.

The tears of a clown have been inmortalized in song and prose. The tears of the audience after laughing their heads off at the end of a Cantinflas movie are a common bond as one can verify when the light are turned back on. The tears were present (and swell again now) after viewing CANTINFLAS on the stage of The Mexican Heritage Center by Teatro Vision. I ask myself why the tears? I felt sorrow that we no longer have Cantinflas to share that spark of genious that can never be grasped, much less understood or explained. It can only be seen, heard and enjoyed and Herbert Siguenza and Teatro Vision were able to recreate that presence, la chispa, enveloped in that cigarrete smoke that ultimatley took him in an act of magic. His essence remains in our own vacillating character mexicano, indio, mestizo, chicano, etc. through this play, his movies, comic strips, TV cartoons and endless chronicles. You have to see, feel, laugh, cry, impersonate Cantinflas in order to let go of what you thought Collapse
