About the artist:

Pianist Patricia Cheng is an active soloist and chamber musician, who has performed in recitals and festivals throughout the United States and abroad. Her recent appearances in the San Francisco Bay Area include performances at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, Stanford University, the Palo Alto Art Center and Foothill College. She holds an M.M. from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and was named a finalist in the Conservatory’s annual piano concerto competition.


Ms. Cheng’s musical development has been shaped by her piano studies with mentors including Paul Hersh, Sara Laimon and Beth Miller Harrod. Ms. Cheng has also worked with chamber music coaches from diverse perspectives, such as violist Jodi Levitz, composer Shulamit Ran and members of the St. Lawrence String Quartet.


An active member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California, Ms. Cheng currently teaches at the New Mozart School of Music. She is also a member of the Fortnightly Music Club and serves as Chair of the City of Mountain View Performing Arts Committee.


Ms. Cheng’s distinguished record of achievement spans the social sciences, humanities and fine arts. She earned her undergraduate degree with honors in English from the University of Chicago. She also won the prestigious Donnelley Cambridge Exchange Fellowship, which enabled her to study music for one year at Cambridge University. Ms. Cheng then attended Yale Law School, where she earned a J.D. while actively continuing her piano studies.


Ms. Cheng is committed to using her multiple talents to bring classical music to a broad range of audiences. Her accomplishments include publishing an essay entitled “Toward a New Understanding of Constanze Weber Mozart,” which examines the life of W.A. Mozart’s wife and her contribution to the composer’s creative life. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, she now lives with her husband and daughter in Silicon Valley.
