A local of Santa Clara County, who currently resides in Campbell, I am no stranger to the charm that Silicon Valley provides during these busy holiday times. With the crisp air, and the wonderful display of lights, it’s no wonder that this really is my favorite time of the year. Adding to the magic of the holiday season is a timely classic tradition that has been a part of my world since the age of squirt guns, and imaginary friends. Ballet San Jose presents Dennis Nahat’s The Nutcracker that proves to be a night out to remember! A lavish display of scenery with a spectacular array of costumes provides a visually stimulating holiday feast not to be missed. On this menu includes a little something for everyone. Excitement, adventure, humor, and even a touch of romance will give you goose bumps from start to finish. Surprises are around every corner as special effects compliment the scenes. Ballerinas portrayed as snowflakes cater to the imagination quite nicely as their graceful moves led you to believe that they are actually snow falling. The ballroom scene proved to be absolutely breathtaking, as ladies in sparkling gowns are led by dashing gents under magnificent chandeliers of light. The characters, Maria and her Nutcracker Prince, travel to distant countries where the music composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and performed by Symphony San Jose Silicon Valley helped to evoke the feel and culture of these distant lands. You will "oo and ah" as they travel to China where an astonishing fleet of acrobatic movement is displayed. In Arabia, the dancers move right on Pointe as they hypnotize you into their trance. With so much beauty and grace featured upon one stage it’s best not to look away, for one quick turn of the shoulder would truly be a magical moment missed. Collapse

Yes, its a tradition, yes even if you aren't a ballet fan you know the music, and yes this is a great way to spend the evening or the afternoon. The costumes and set are fantastic, and the special effects just add to this great, timeless tale. It is particularly worth it just for the Tsar and Tsarina Pas De Duex at the end, who are just amazing, making it look SOOOOO easy. The Orchestra was phenomenal, and the kids playing the mice are adorable and the sense of humor this production has is super! Little kids may find the 1st act a bit long, but the second half is quick paced. Collapse

I went to see A Christmas Carol for opening night, and it has been the best production yet of Dicken's classic.In the lobby you come in to hear a wonderful choir singing classic christmas caroles with talented sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. Each actor was extremely talented and made very credible characters. One girl played a boy, however I did not notice untill I read her bio! All three children were great, as well as the rest of the actors. The special effects were also very credible, as well as the costumes. The script was 95% straight out of the book. I certainly reccomend Northside Theatre's A Christmas Carole! Collapse

Very true to the text. I loved the character Scrooge (so many lines very well delivered I thought he was a pro)and Cratchet's perfect sense of timing made a deep impression on me. The Cratchet dinner was so touching and Mrs. Cratchet very strong--unique to all the performances I have seen. The whole cast had incredible heart. I am taking my kids again tomorrow. Loved it! What a superb production! Tabard has yet another great show that was enjoyed by my kids & I. My 3 yr old who can't sit still for long, sat through the whole 2 hours & enjoyed every moment.... Expand

Peggy, Donna, Cheryl & Kaye- all have great stamina to sing, dance, smile thru the whole thing without breaking a sweat!!! Great orchestra & great show for the holidays. Collapse

It was so great!!! He was all and more!I really enjoyed the show. Deanna Carter opened and she was pretty good too. Definitely worth all the while. Just wish I was the girl who got to sing with him!
