I highly recommend you see this show. Yes, the book is a piece of 'fluff' but the cast and band are excellent! Very talented! The leading lady is a real 'find'! Leslie Hardy is terrific. Greg Goebel continues to amaze with his warm voice and ease onstage. Never met anyone who didn't like him, on or off stage! The cast brings the Gershwin songs to life with their incredible singing and dancing. "Fascinatin' Rhythm" is a show-stopper. Gary Daum is PERFECT as the Butler - doesn't crack a smile and has just right amount of subtle disdain for the goings on around him. James Creer 'stole the show' with his songs, wonderful voice and beautiful smile! A natural onstage! The dancers were excellent, so talented! So much energy! Loved the choreography and costumes! Don't miss it! Collapse

Kudos to John Ribovich for having the gall to poke fun at the Bard with this irreverent, madcap comedy, based on Shakespeare's "The Life and Death of King John." A cast of five make up the myriad of characters in an impressive display of versatility. Noel Wood is a standout as the Bastard, and he delivers the only monologues in prose (the rest of the play is written entirely in verse) with panache. Eric Rhea is charming and hilarious as the child prince Arthur, among several other characters which Rhea slips in and out of with ease. Despite its irreverence, this production does make Shakespeare more accessible to the standard ear. According to the hearty laughter surrounding me in the audience, clearly this is a crowd pleaser. The focus of the play is on laughs rather than detail, though a fair bit of original Shakespearian material manages to sneak in. Although you won’t come away with a deeper understanding of King John from seeing this show (or who knows, perhaps you will), it does present Shakespeare in a way which is light and entertaining and which may inspire further interest. I think this play was my favorite SC Players productions that I have gone to. (I have seen about 7 of their plays in the last 3 years). Spent an absolutely delightful evening at The Retro Dome. The Guggenheim crew definitely know how to define the concept of "Shout for Joy!" Their latest creation, "SHOUT," is lively, tuneful, well-choreographed, and boasts five amazingly talented women bringing popular music of the '60s to colorful and energetic life. But perhaps the best part of a Guggenheim production is the way in which their productions always keep the audience foremost in mind, and involve the folks in the dark with the bright antics on stage. We actually sang and clapped to a couple of songs and felt like we were part of the show! As a former critic for a cultural arts weekly ("Boston After Dark," from the 60's) as well, I can "professionally" state that this is a "must see" production. Support your local theatre! I really didn't go into this show expecting much. I really came to support my friend, but oh boy was I surprised. It ended up being one of the better nights of this year. The cast was great and Jordan Pajarillo was top notch in dancing, singing, and acting. Overall he was a great performer. The rest of the cast reminded me of the TV High School Musical and each took on the personality of their bigger TV counterparts. i was very impressed with this show! it far exceded my expectations(no pun intended) it was very impressive for a youth theatre production and i was blown away with many of the spot on english accents. the shows simple set and stunning blocking made the show move so smoothly. the theatre was darling and intimate, you can tell the actors and director take pride in the theatre and the shows they produce. the only reason i did not give this 5 stars was because there was a bit of backstage noise but again in such a small space that was to be expected. none the less it did not ruin the show for me in any way and i would absolutely recommend this show to my friends and anyone reading this. i was more then pleasantly surprised with the show and thought it was done incredibly well. GO SEE THIS SHOW YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. tix where cheap and worth it. Collapse

This show is a lot of fun. I went with a friend and was whispering stuff like "Oh, that's a reprise from HSM!" to her throughout. Haha, I'm almost too old for that, but seriously, this cast provides a good time and the music itself is full of energy. Now, all the cast is great but people I really noticed were: Troy, who has an impressive voice and knows how to use it, and also has the moves; Gabriella, who has a voice that rivals Troy's. Chad was a favorite early on, and Sharpay's acting is so perfect for that character. The little girl assistant is a bright spot as well. Each cast member's character (Ryan, Kelsi, etc) comes out so well, and there are too many examples of that to mention here. With the singing polish and stage presence, many of these kids must be CMTSJ alum, and if not, take that as a compliment. I should admit that I have some great friends on the staff and crew, but this is the essence of what I told them, and now you have it too. Go see it! Collapse

The ensemble of ladies of a certain age are all very well cast and a delight to watch in this script which is silly and predictable but well executed. Although the sold out house of 72 was a bit warm, and the plot a bit long, this is one of the best productions I have seen at Santa Clara Players. With the exception of a somewhat out of place silent montage during a scene change and a make-shift gurney that broke the 4th wall a bit, a fun piece for all ages! Collapse

This productions is packed with talent, from the actors, singers and dancers to the musicians, choreographer and designers. Tabard does an outstanding job bringing the show to life -- Unfortunately, the script should have been left peacefully in its grave. Still, despite the weak book scenes and the many ungainly songs that don't further the story, it's a musical worth seeing for the talent and energy of the performers, and the first-rate production values. Mary Kalita is a high-steppin' fireball as the ingenue lead, and every principal brings plenty to his or her role. Gary Stanford Jr. and Nes Fragoso are stand-outs in their comedic character parts, Keith Pennings is slick and convincing as a silver-tongued lawyer, and James Creer's warm baritone and winning smile make his solos a vocal highlight of the evening. Sets and costumes are sleek and elegant, evoking the excess of the Roaring 20s. Overall, worth seeing, but I wish this great team had picked a better show. Collapse

This script is predictablly cheesey but in a good way. Sweet and era appropriate, there's a solid band, supporting a beautifully constumed cast, who have some wonderful dance productions numbers and a smattering of standout songs. Greg Gobel elicits a sigh and a smile from his first note, the kind of voice that's so lovely, you wish he had more songs to sing. Timing was good for the most part with the comedy, but this is no deep theatre expereince. Go with an open mind, don't try to make sense of the keystone cop type plot, just enjoy the music and the sparkles and the slapstick and you'll leave happy. Collapse

Well, that was an hour I can't get back. The film was an apologia disguised as a travelogue, with far too much animation for an IMAX film. It's appalling that this movie follows a US film student as he interviews Bedouin men (women can't be filmed) talking about "family values", and several times mentions Saudi Arabia's supposed attempt at melding modern with "traditional" values... where "traditional" values include stoning for adultery and not allowing women to drive, travel without male consent, or to appear in public without Islamic covering. None of this was even hinted at in the film. I was disappointed in the quality of this IMAX, and disturbed by the one-sided content. At least I could watch with fascination as a camel lowered itself and rose with a rider, that was cool. Not worth having sat through the rest of the film, though. Give this one a miss. Collapse

Extremely disappointed that it is sold out! Please find a way to extend the opportunity to the large audience that wish to hear him speak. Pod Cast, video tape, partner with local public TV, move it to a larger venue for the talk, be creative! His fans don't have many chances to learn from his personal view... he's one of our own California gems and should be shared broadly.
