Having seen other productions of Picasso at various Bay Area theatres, having read the play, and being a huge fan of Steve Martin's work, I had high expectations for Northside's production and I was not disappointed. The cast was top notch and well assigned. Martin's script is fast-paced and witty and the cast was up to the task, keeping a brisk pace without stumbling over their words. I fully intend on going back to Northside with some other friends to experience this production again. Collapse

This was by far one of the most entertaining evenings I have spent in a long time. I was enchanted, charmed, moved, and amused at this clever pairing of two short plays I had never heard of. The acting was SUPERB and in both plays which are starkly differnt yet compliment each other so well, the chemsitry of the pair of actors was astonishing. This is the second time I have been to this theatre for their summer rep and this is the second time I was so surprised by the talent, wonderful choice of scripts, and the technical professionalism and creativity of the shows. I so look forward to the next two shows! Do yourself a favor, grab a tissue (first show is a good, beautiful cry interspersed with such levity and poetry) and go spend a great 2 1/2 hours in Sunnyvale! Collapse

I attended Grease last weekend and enjoyed it. Who doesn't love Grease although I was disappointed to have not heard "Your the One that I want". This is a Grease classic. The best character up there was Rizzo. The girl who played this role did an outstanding performance and man what vocals!! Rizzo and Kenickie kept the show going and anytime they were on stage I couldnt stop watching them (of course in the car- WOW!). The energy at the school dance was contageous and made me want to get up and dance. Sandy and Danny were very hard to hear over the music at times and I did not like some of their acting. It was hard to get into their scenes and believe it. Plus I expected Sandy's final scene to be much more over the top. She looked normal. The pink ladies were all very appropriately cast and enjoyable as well as the boys. Took me back to my days in high school... very very long ago. Overall good effort by WVLO and I reccomend this show to anyone. Collapse

This show was a great rendition of the classic "Grease". All the characters were hillarious especially the classic nerd Eugene. I'd never seen the musical before, and enjoyed the Pink Ladies being featured more than in the movie. Although at times the music overshadowed the singing, each number just kept getting better and better. The other characters overshadowed Danny and Sandy, which actually worked to the advantage of the show. Each character had something unique to offer. The choreography was interesting, but my absolute favorite dance number was the school dance. My favorite numbers were the fabulous "There are worst things I could do", "Summer Nights" and "Freddy, My Love". The value for students is great. If you show up 20 minutes before a show, and there are tickets left, you can get them for half price with a valid student i.d. All in all it's a great show and i'm actually going to see it again! I haven't been there in a while because it's not near my house. However, it used to be a great place to dance for beginners and intermediate level dancers. The lessons were well done and the bands were great. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars from me is the lack of air conditioning. They may have added that in the last year. Collapse

Swing Central is a great place to dance whether you are a beginner or an intermediate dancer. The dances taught mostly focuses on the "Lindy Hop" and covers other dances in the swing dance era like the "Charleston" and "Balboa". Once in a while, Swing Central hosts live music performances by dancer favorite bands like Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Licker and Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums featuring Miss Carmen Getit. The atmosphere is great and the dancefloor is slick. Collapse

The Rodin garden has been one of my favorite hang-outs since high school. The layout is elegant, and the sculptures are simply magical. Lovely spot for picnicking, too.

This is a great play. Bizarre, surreal, witty, deep, just goofy. The cast is certainly having fun, and except for the occasional pacing issue (an hour and 35 minutes with no intermission is tough) which are likely to improve with the run and a visual joke here and there that was just trying too hard, this is a solid play. What stuck me most was that having seen, read and even auditioned for this play, several of these characters were interpretations that never even crossed my mind. This is a good thing. This was very much a production outside the box and in the spirit of the conversations the characters have on genius and creativity. You will recognize a large portion of this young but vetern cast and that's always fun, but you should keep an eye out for some of the less well know actors in things to come. Special Kudos to the tight costume design & lighting design. The details made a huge difference, and the little surprises were fun in the initimate space. Collapse

The actors used every inch of the stage, but we missed many of the scenes because we had a hard time seeing over the orchestra that was literary inches from the people seating in the front row. I have been to WVLO many times but for some reason the actors had very low energy for this show, with the exception of the DJ Vince Fontain and the poor picked on nerd Eugene. These secondary characters stole the show! Danny whispered all his songs and was stiff. The sound was not loud when the actors spoke and several of them mumbled lines. The music overpowered the actors during the songs. Rizzo and Kenickie did have a few very good scenes, especially Rizzo’s “There Are Worst Things I Could Do” song. That was terrific. They used a real car for Grease Lighting but this only made another obstacle to have to see over. I wished we didn’t have to pay full price to see half a show. Collapse
