    Mission San Jose

Mission San Jose was founded by the Franciscan Fathers in 1797, and became home to herds of cattle, horses and sheep, fields of corn and wheat, and many olive trees. During the California Gold Rush, Mission San Jose was an agricultural center and the Mission buildings became the hotel, general store and Post Office.

The Mission area is home to several historically significant attractions, including the Mission, the authentically reconstructed adobe church, and the Old School.

The Mission San Jose Museum, is open daily 10am-5pm. Group tours are available by appointment only. Phone: 510-657-1797.
