    Courthouse Square

Concerts, dancing, movies, art shows, festivals, Shakespeare, noontime performances, family fun and more! It used to be that every downtown had a central gathering place, a plaza or town square that was comfortable and inviting; where people could gather and be part of a real community. Redwood City's Courthouse Square is such a place. As one of the finest public spaces in the entire Bay Area, this award-winning centerpiece of the city's beautifully revived Downtown is the hot spot for free entertainment all summer long.

The Roman-Renaissance portico of the historic 1910 Courthouse has been fully restored, including the grand staircase leading into the San Mateo County History Museum. Two semi-enclosed pavilions with shops and cafes flank a decoratively paved plaza. Ornamental fountains run along the pavilion seating areas, cascading into basins at the main plaza level. The historic Fox Theatre is located just across the street, as well as a 20-screen movie theatre.
