Forester's of America Hall
The Foresters of America Hall is a large historic dance hall in heart of old downtown Redwood City. It has a large stage and a dance floor with over 6000 square feet of dance space. There is also a large dining area off to one side with a large bar and kitchen facility as well. The dance floor has 3,560 square feet of hardwood maple dance space. It also boasts a banquet hall of 1,000 square feet and a bar, kitches, and lounge area of another 1,000 square feet. Built in 1913 for the Fraternal Order of the Foresters, it served as a forum for benefit dances, masquerade balls, home-style dinners, ballroom dancing and Army-hosted socials through the 1940's. With the advent of the rock era of the 50's and 60's, fraternal orders and events such as this became less prominent. Across America, the fraternal brotherhood and benevolent societies literally began to die out as their members grew older.
For the last 20 years, about ten organizations, includign the Native Sons of the Golden West, and the remaining members of the Order of the Owls have continued to meet upstairs in the old lodge room. However, the number of members in Foresters Court Madrone No. 158 had declined to just a handful who had hung on to their memories. Due to the overwhelming responsibility of managing and maintaining the building, it was place on the market for sale and an uncertian future.
