Over the next two weeks we will be transitioning everyone who currently uses our Advertising module from Revive Ad Server to a new solution called Advanced Ads Pro. We’re excited about it and we think you will be too! Due to ongoing performance and security concerns with Revive Ad Server we recently performed an extensive review of alternative advertising solutions with a focus on those that are ‘native’ to WordPress.
One significant improvement with Advanced Ads Pro is that your ads will now reside directly within your website and not on a separate server as has been the case with Revive Ad Server. This allows for faster loading of ad banners, real-time analytics, and centralization of the management and reporting tools right from within your existing dashboard. And sure, this new plugin also offers greater stability and security, but there are lots of other reasons to love this new advertising solution too. Let us count the ways:
#2 Schedule ads by setting a start or expiry date and time for your ads.
#3 Improved Performance by utilizing the cache function on our sites, and with ‘lazy loading ads’, that only loads ads when users scroll to them.
#4 Links to your Google AdSense account, and helps to comply with their policies, create the correct ads.txt entry, and convert automatically to AMP (P.S. You can double your ad revenue by showing the same ads on AMP either automatically or by creating dedicated AMP ads.)
#5 Create different ad setups for mobile and desktop to improve the performance of each version.
#6 Track ad impressions and clicks, and share performance reports via URL or email with others.
#7 Monetize ad-block users by showing them content that cannot be blocked.
#8 Protect your reputation by preventing ‘Click Fraud’ and keep anyone from clicking the same ads too often.
#9 Increase the visibility of ads using an ad slider or ad grid with multiple rows.
#10 Show an ad only once by preventing an ad from accidentally showing in multiple places on the same page.
#11 Show or hide ads for specific posts, pages or other custom post types.
#12 Rotate ads on the same spot to fight ‘ad blindness’ or test different ads against each other.
#13 Show Ads that fit the screen of your visitors’ browser either by showing them on mobile, tablet, or desktop or by specific browser width. Choose which ad sizes to display for which screen width or just let the new platform pick the ones that fit automatically.
We could list more, but we figure you don’t want this article to go on forever. The point is this is a very powerful way for you to manage your advertising.
Is advertising worth it?
Earned revenue is a critical part of any non-profit’s funding strategy and online advertising is a great way to add to that stream of income. That said, websites that relied on local online advertising took a major hit during the pandemic. For sites like those in our Network, that were focused on getting people out and enjoying the community, site traffic dropped to about half, or less, of what was normal. This left a lot of Network Members questioning if the effort put into their advertising programs was worth it.
The good news is, we are seeing a major rebound in those metrics, across the entire Network. As large portions of the country open up and people begin to venture back out into the world, we think this is an excellent time for our Network Members to return their attention to, or begin, advertising on their site. It is important to note that some government entities are not allowed to advertise on their site, but for those organizations that can, we predict a resurgence of local advertisers. A resurgence that we are already seeing play out in many of our communities. That is why we have focused out energy this past month on ensuring this module is the best it can be.
How do we advertise on our site?
To advertise on your ARTSOPOLIS Network site, you will need the Advertising Module. If you don’t see it in your left hand column on your admin dashboard, feel free to reach out to us. There is a small fee involved with the installation and configuration of the Module, but we feel you will quickly see a return on your investment.
For those of you who already have the Advertising Module, once we go through the process of transitioning the network, we will provide a Knowledge Base article to help you learn about how to use the many features of the new plugin. Also, we will migrate all of your current content over to the new plugin within your system, so you don’t have to worry about losing any content.
