Over the past year we have received a number of requests to identify ways we might streamline the Event Submission form to make it more user-friendly and faster to complete. Our development team heard your requests and have spent roughly 140 hours over the past 3 months streamlining the Event Submission process. This new option offers a change from the previous three-step form by merging "Step 2" (the individual dates and times step) into "Step 1" (the main form). This change also addresses what some users have reported as a technical bug in which some users were unable to move from Step 1 to Step 2 in certain browsers.
With the new form, the user will now enter all event details, including individual date and time information, on one form. The user will then be directed to the preview page where they will get one final look at how their posting will be presented once approved.
In addition to the merging of the dates and times step into Step 1, other improvements have been made in terms of helpful tips, error messaging, and text formatting such as limiting the user's ability to paste in complex HTML and other code into the description field that can negatively affect the layout and design of your web pages, as well as those of your syndication parters, if your are currently using the Syndication module.
Transitioning your Event Submission form to the new two-step process is not a requirement. You can choose to continue with the three-step form. However, we hope that the significant improvements made to the submission process and the early success of those network members who have already adopted the new form will encourage you to adopt it, as well.
Our development team would like to thank Network Members Sacramento365 and Essex County Creates for their guidance and feedback during the fine tuning process to help ensure the form is as efficient as possible.
If you would like to request this new 2-step form be activated on your event calendar site, please email us: email@example.com
