Blank, blue maps will no longer show up on virtual event listings.
When the pandemic began, we were not a team focused on optimizing our system to display virtual events, but that has changed. Initially when the world shifted to online events, we employed work arounds. As we have discovered ways to make our system adapt more efficiently, we have been working to integrate long-term solutions to replace those initial patches.
A good example of one of these issues we patched was the fact that our integrated map function didn’t know how to handle events that were happening ‘nowhere’. Our initial solution was to pick a standard point in the middle of the pacific ocean and place the ‘venue’ there, assuming people would understand that the event wasn’t going to take place in Ariel’s grotto. We discovered that wasn’t enough, so we began development to suppress the mapping function and instead created an option on the submission form that, when the selection of a virtual event is made, triggers the front end ‘Location’ section to display ‘Virtual/Streaming’, an ambiguous Latitude and Longitude location, and ensure no big, blue, blank map shows up either.
This is now a deployed on all Event Calendar sites. If you have questions reach out to us: NetworkSupport@artsopolis.com
