Our Artists, Organizations, and Events XML Syndication feeds are now capable of randomization, in addition to their alphabetical default display. In addition, so is our Artist WordPress Plugin. The XML feed structure change is designed to increase traffic to the parent site (your site) by increasing the novelty of the information displayed in the syndication feeds. How? Let’s examine some use cases:
The Richland Library is working in partnership with their local arts organization, One Columbia, to raise awareness about local arts and artists. Their feed ‘shuffles’ and displays a randomized different group of local artists every hour. The feed can be set to refresh more often, but every few hours, is a common choice. This provides a new feed relatively frequently, without slowing down the performance of the page.
Other use examples:
- A local lodging partner wants all live music events happening the next 30 days to appear in randomized order on their page. This will highlight a different event each time a user visits the page.
- A chamber of commerce wants to equitably highlight local non-profit arts organizations, without taking up too much real estate on their page by listing them all at once.
- A partnering art association wants to display a randomized feed of just its members on their WordPress homepage.
There are various ways to leverage the equity this improvement makes.
